We know that painful migraines are felt at the top or side of the head. But did you also know that the root cause of your migraine headache may actually start at the bottom of your head — all the way down at the jaw.
Why is There a Link Between TMJ and Migraines?
Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. It allows you to talk, chew and yawn. But the joint’s supporting muscles also can be the source of your migraines.
Your jaw muscles tighten when you grind or clench your teeth – or do things such as chew gum. The pain from your jaw created by the clenching then travels to other places in the skull, causing headaches or, in severe cases, migraines. You may also experience toothaches, earaches or shoulder pain.
Is it a Stress Headache or Migraine?
People often experience a migraine as a throbbing pain. The pain may occur on one side of the head only, but may be felt on both sides. Light, sounds, smells, stress, activity or hormonal changes can trigger the pain.
A migraine may cause you to become temporarily sensitive to light, sound and smell and can make you feel nauseous.
Physical activity also can aggravate a migraine. Some people experience visual or sensory changes, called auras, before, during or after the headache.

TruDenta treats the cause of many headaches and headache-pain symptoms, and provides long-lasting, needle-free, and drug-free pain relief.
The TruDenta System is an approach to pain relief available from a certified dentist like me. The system addresses and treats the cause of the pain instead of temporarily masking it. Using a combination of techniques derived from sports medicine therapies, the TruDenta Pain Relief System targets the improper muscle forces in the head, neck, and jaw area that cause painful conditions.
